Determination of some elements from wild Pterocephalus nestorianus Nab., growing in Kurdistan Region/Iraq using ICP-AES and ICP-MS]

This investigation includes for the first time, the determination of elements in the flowers, leaves and roots of Pterocephalus nestorianus Nab. (Dipsacaceae family) which collected on Safeen Mountain from Kurdistan Region of Iraq. This plant is used for treating oral diseases and inflammation. For the analysis of elements ICP-AES and ICP-MS was used following microwave-assisted acid digestion. These techniques are most powerful and high sensitivity of elemental analysis. The concentrations of 65 elements were determined. Among the macro elements calcium, represents the highest, followed by potassium, magnesium, aluminum, Iron, phosphor and sulfur are represented nutrient elements for the plants. Minor elements B, Ba, Al, Cu, Ni, Cr, Mn, Zn and Sr are between 1 - 100 mg/kg. The Ca is recorded the highest concentrations (3.61%), while the Pd and Re elements recorded the low concentration (˂ 0.001) in P. nestorianus Nab. These findings as well validate opens the door for more research in this plant because nor chemical and pharmacological data were published so far on this plant.
